About Our Farm
A Family Farm with a Rich Literary History
Taylor Farm as it exists today was once known simply as Yamoyden. This near 70 acres in Morrow, Ohio was founded by Edward Deering Mansfield (1801-1880), in 1850. A very young Edward was the son of Col. Jared Mansfield of New Haven, Conn. and accompanied his father, appointed Surveyor General by Thomas Jefferson, to Cincinnati. Edward described Cincinnati as "One of the dirtiest littlest villages you ever saw." Ok wow!! He was a scholar, law professor, journalist, editor of numerous publications and author of seven novels. He was known to have introduced a young Harriet Beecher Stowe to the public as she was employed at Mansfield's The Chronicle where she published her first stories. Two City Folk with a Dream
As for the modern day family, we are Chris and Dina Taylor with 5 adult kids and 5 dogs between us. An Italian pastry chef with a science and literature background and a German business owner and project guru with a LOVE for dogs had a crazy idea. Native to Cincinnati, we wanted to find a spot within 30 minutes of our city home to learn, gather and expend loads of energy. We feel so very lucky to have found this oasis from the chaos and a true paradise in every season. We are passionate about animals, good fresh food and connecting to nature and family. We strive to create a safe haven for our sheep, dogs and bees and soon chickens, goats and a donkey and who knows what else! We are learning from our creatures as we learn about ourselves and hope to increase our knowledge as hobby farmers while enjoying and entertaining family and friends. Never without a project, a dream and dirty boots!
